Many twists and turns. Rui finished 13th, Harith finished 22nd and Lorenzo DNF.

Dakar 2024 stage 2 : The Sherco Factory Rally Team riders raced in the second stage of the 2024 Dakar today. The race consisted of 192 km of liaison and 463 km of special and went from Al Henakiyah to Al Duwadimi. In the opinion of all the riders, this stage in the sand was much more pleasant to ride than yesterday’s stage which was very technical and tricky. On this fast track, Rui Gonçalves was able to find a good rhythm and regain confidence, he finished 13th for the day and is 19th in the general classification, 41 minutes behind the leader. Harith Noah overcame his physical problems yesterday and finished 22nd. He is 20th in the general classification.
Lorenzo Santolino suffered a racing incident and was forced to retire.

Stage 2 Ranking
Rui Gonçalves: P13
Harith Noah: P22

Provisional general classification
Rui Gonçalves: P17
Harith Noah: P20

Rui Gonçalves:
“It was another long day with more than 460 km of special with faster tracks than yesterday. We had to remain very vigilant when it came to navigation. I felt better so I was able to keep a good pace which was higher than the one I had yesterday and that helped me regain my confidence.
At one point, there were several riders riding together and there was a lot of dust. You had to remain vigilant so as not to be surprised by a trap.
It was a positive day; I think we can also improve a few details and that’s what we will do in the coming days. We are at the end of the 2nd stage, the rally is still long, we are only at the beginning.
We are now preparing for tomorrow.
Thank you to the whole team for all the work and to all my fans for their support.”

Harith Noah:
“I felt physically better today. It was a fast stage. I had many small navigation mistakes especially towards the end. I will keep my head up and work at staying focused. Tomorrow is the marathon stage.”

Lorenzo Santolino:
“My 2024 Dakar is over…It’s a shame not to be able to see how far we could have gone this year. The whole team did a fantastic job, and the course offered the type of terrain and characteristics in which I could have been very competitive. It was a great effort by everyone, family, friends, sponsors, team, staff… Thank you all for your support.
We will come back even stronger for the 2025 Dakar.”

Tomorrow, the riders will set off for the 3rd stage of the Dakar, from Al Duwadimi to Al Salamiya, this is a unique stage. At the finish of the special, there will be a 2-hour work park where only the assistance vehicles will have the right of access. The riders will therefore have 2 hours of assistance from the mechanics. They will then sleep alone in their tent, with the assistance vehicles and mechanics returning to another bivouac. The program for the 3rd day, is 733 km long including 438 km of special and 295 km of liaison.
