|
The Association of European Motorcycles is launching a safety campaign on the risks associated with the infrastructure. This campaign is designed to alert drivers of motorcycles and scooters and was started to coincide with the European Day for Road Safety, organized by the European Commission in Paris. The goal is to raise awareness among drivers, of the risks that stem from the state of the roads, and will take place over a 13 month period with performance and training courses on various aspects related to the safety of driving motorcycles. According to studies 8% of the accidents are caused directly by deficiencies in infrastructure. Feedback to the possible deficiencies is highly encouraged and is paramount in trying to reduce the percentage of accidents.

| The ACEM in 2006 published “Recommendations for infrastructure of roads that are safer for two-wheeled motorized vehicles” as part of the integrated approach of its Plan of Action Security. This technical manual, developed with engineers from the service roads and works department is primarily aimed at those responsible, city planners and businesses, to provide useful recommendations for the safety of users of two-wheeled motorized vehicles. The BD which is supported by ACEM elected to extend the useful information from this technical manual. The BD can be found at www.acem.eu/cartoon it includes drawing and reflections on the dangers of crossings, road merging from dangerous areas, diesel and other liquid on the road, areas badly damaged or repaired, ill-conceived traffic devices, driving at night, winter and ice, debris on the pavement, blocks, metal plates and street markers and poorly designed roundabouts. With this road safety campaign, the motorcycle industry reaffirms its commitment to road safety. ACEM, the Association of Manufacturers of European Motorcycles, represents the interests and combined skills of 11 manufacturers of two-wheeled motorized vehicles, producing a total of 26 brands of motorcycles, scooters and mopeds, as well as 15 national associations in 13 European countries. |
